We are removing pollutants from NCC-managed lands, and preventing pollution by reviewing our use of pesticides.

We have committed to two actions and three indicators under the “Safe and healthy communities” goal.

Our actions

Each action has a set of indicators — with clear, concrete and measurable targets — to evaluate success. The status of each are as reported in the 2019-2020 annual report.

10.1 Under the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan, clean up the highest-priority sites on NCC-managed lands.

Clean up at least 1.5 hectares of land | Begun, on track

  • We are focusing on cleaning up our highest-priority contaminated site: Victoria Island. We decontaminated 0.5 hectare of land here in 2019–2020.

10.2 Look for alternatives to the use of chemical pesticides on NCC-managed lands.

Complete an assessment of pesticide use on NCC-managed lands | Begun, on track

  • We have started this assessment, and will continue in 2020–2021.

Revise the NCC pesticide policy | Not yet begun

  • We will recommend updates to our pesticide policy based on our assessment of pesticide use. The updated policy will help protect human health and the environment.

Will not meet target OR Target not met: The target for this action will not be met or has not been met.
Not yet begun: Work toward this action has not yet begun.
