We are improving the ability of the lands and buildings we manage to withstand and recover from climate impacts.

We have committed to two actions and three indicators under the “Modern and resilient infrastructure” goal.

Our actions

Each action has a set of indicators — with clear, concrete and measurable targets — to evaluate success. The status of each are as reported in the 2019-2020 annual report.

3.1 Adopt stormwater management guidelines to reduce impacts on water quality and quantity.

Adopt stormwater management guidelines | Begun, off track

  • We completed stormwater management guidelines in 2019–2020. They will be presented to the NCC Board of Directors in early 2020–2021.

Apply the stormwater management guidelines to all new projects | Not yet begun

  • We will use these guidelines as new projects come up.

3.2 Assess the flood risk for NCC operations and assets located in the 100-year and 350-year flood plain.

Complete a flood risk assessment | Begun, on track

  • We have started gathering data to update the current flood plain maps. Our next steps are to assess the risks to our assets in these flood plains, and to include the impacts of climate change on future flooding.
  • We moved a parking lot above the 100-year flood plain. This parking lot, previously at the corner of Island Park Drive and the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, had flooded in 2017 and 2019. This project has also improved the health of the nearby shoreline.

Begun, on track: Work toward this action has begun, and the project is on track to be completed on time and for the target to be met.
Begun, off track: Work toward this action has begun, and issues have arisen that have required the timeline for the completion of the project to be extended or that will make it difficult to meet the target.
Will not meet target OR Target not met: The target for this action will not be met or has not been met.
Not yet begun: Work toward this action has not yet begun.
