Under the Access to Information Act, you have the right to access any records we hold. Some information within the records may be subject to exemptions or exclusions.

Tips to make a request

A list of completed access to information requests is on the Government of Canada website. We also proactively disclose certain information.

Use Info Source to explore the type of records we hold, how we handle personal information, and more.

  • Classes of records describe our programs, activities and the records we hold.
  • Personal information banks describe how we collect, use, disclose, retain and dispose of personal information.
  • Specify the time range you wish to cover (with start and end dates)
  • Make it clear if you only want final or latest versions of documents
  • Exclude records from our Legal Services, since they’re mostly duplicates or contain privileged information that would be exempted
  • Focus on records from executive-level staff (like directors or VPs), which is where the more important decisions are made

Make a request

You can make a request online or by mail, for an application fee of $5. We will process your request promptly, per legislative deadlines.

Using the access to information and privacy (ATIP) online request service is a quick and convenient way to submit a request.

You can either:

  • Print and fill out the Access to Information Request Form; or
  • Write a letter
    • stating that you are making a request under the Access to Information Act
    • describing the records you want to access (be as specific as possible)
    • indicating whether you want photocopies of documents or prefer to view the records
    • providing your name, telephone number and full address
    • including your signature and the date

Then, enclose the $5 application fee (make cheque or money order payable to the National Capital Commission).
