To limit the impact of our work, the NCC renaturalizes sites after green demolition projects. We use pollinator-friendly seed mixes to restore natural areas and increase pollinator habitats. This is expected to have a positive effect on the surrounding landscape.

This project in action

In 2018 and 2019, we seeded approximately 0.64 hectares (6,400 square metres) near Canada’s Capital Greenbelt in Ottawa. In summer 2021, we visited the seeded sites and observed pollinators in action.

More projects are under way, and our efforts continue. Here are before and after photos of some of the renaturalized sites.

This project is part of the NCC’s goal of protecting wildlife and wildlife habitats on the lands it manages. Learn more about these initiatives under the “Healthy wildlife populations” goal.
