To help people make informed decisions when engaging in outdoor winter activities, including for safe physical distancing, we have installed counters at various places in our network to get information about the number of people using NCC sites. 

As we work to add counters to other sites, our team will update this information weekly.

Week of February 15 to 22, 2021

Rideau Canal Skateway

We counted an average of 20,216 visits per day.

This number compares with an average of 22,000 visits per day in 2019–2020. 

The most popular access points were Dows and Mackenzie King West.

For the best skating experience, visit the Skateway during the week and avoid peak time between 1 pm and 5 pm daily. 

NOTE: The Skateway is temporarily closed until further notice.

SJAM Winter Trail

We counted an average of 1,175 visits per day.

This number compares with an average of 314 visits per day in 2019–2020.*

* Visits were counted from February 1 to March 31, 2020.

Gatineau Park

For the best experience on the Gatineau Park trails, avoid peak times between 12 pm to 4 pm on weekdays and 12 pm to 4 pm on weekends.

This past week, the following parking lots were the least crowded:

  • P1 (Asticou)
  • P6 (Mackenzie King Estate)
  • P11 (O'Brien)

For the best experience, visit the Greenbelt during the week, or go to the areas where there are fewer people.
