Scott Burns is a professional planner and economic developer with over 40 years’ experience. He is a recognized expert in planning and economic development issues, especially pertaining to urban employment areas. He is the founding principal of Scott Burns Planning Consultants (SBPC).The firm’s clients include real estate developers, individual landowners, municipalities, the Ontario government and various municipal governments, private corporations and not-for-profit organizations. Prior to starting SBPC, Scott was a partner with Hemson Consulting Ltd., from 1985 to 1997, and The Planning Partnership from 1997 to 2003. From 1980 to 1985, he was director of planning for Inducon Consultants of Canada, a major real estate developer, and, from 1972 to 1980, he worked as a senior planner for the City of Toronto. Over the course of his professional career, Scott has worked to provide private- and public-sector clients with credible advice for projects that involve large, complex planning and development approvals, expert testimony and policy development, as well as for small-scale planning projects. Scott is an active participant with Lambda Alpha, an international land economists’ society. Scott Burns holds a BASc in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto and a certificate in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo and the Industrial Developers Association of Canada.
