The National Capital Commission (NCC) was advised late on Monday December 9th, that the individuals at the encampment near Bayview Yards have accepted the temporary accommodations that were offered to them by the City of Ottawa.
On Tuesday, December 10th, the NCC began cleaning up the site. Belongings that were left behind at the encampment are being stored by the NCC and arrangements will be made to give the individuals the opportunity to collect them.
Throughout the fall, the NCC collaborated with the City of Ottawa and its community partners as they worked on securing accommodations for individuals camping near Bayview Yards.
Due to concerns related to health and safety - including restricted access of emergency medical services, exposure risk due to expected colder temperatures and related fire risk due to propane use as well as a lack of basic services and sanitation on the site - the NCC recently issued verbal, then written notices to the individuals, asking them to leave the encampment once temporary housing had been offered.
We want to thank the City and its partners for assisting these individuals during a difficult situation and hope for a successful transition to the provided housing.
