News release

October 4, 2023

The NCC is asking the public to share their thoughts on the future of the National Capital Region’s core area. We are looking for input to develop a new vision for the core area that resonates with the aspirations of National Capital Region residents and of all Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Spanning across two municipalities and two provinces, the National Capital Region’s core area forms the hub of the Ottawa-Gatineau downtown sector. Its unique setting and dramatic landscape are culturally significant symbols and character features of the capital.

The streets and buildings of the core area reflect elements of the region’s industrial and political past, with many being among Canada’s most iconic buildings, significant institutions, and meaningful national symbols.

The policy landscape of the National Capital Region has evolved since the current plan was adopted in 2005. To address these changes, we are updating the National Capital Core Area Plan to align with current planning demands, priorities and challenges. Public feedback is an integral part of this review.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

  • Share your insights and thoughts on the core area online. Here, you will find resources, visuals, and a visioning survey.
  • Attend a community pop-up kiosk in October to meet with our experts in person. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ask questions in a more informal setting.
  • Participate in our workshops later this fall, where structured discussions and hands-on brainstorming will contribute to validation and development of the themes and big ideas for the core area.

We look forward to hearing from you! Stay tuned to our social media channels and our webpage to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
