Many electrical systems (lights, kiosks, etc.) across NCC sites are past their useful life. This project aims to replace or repair the systems in the Ontario urban lands and in the Greenbelt.

About the project

This three-phase project will address the problem one area at a time. Phase 1 will focus on part of the Rideau Canal corridor. Phase 2 and 3 will focus on the rest of the sites that need rehabilitation.

By the end of this project, we will have repaired or replaced all outdated and broken pathway and parkway lights as well as the supporting infrastructure (cables, panels, kiosks, etc.). Priority will be given to health and safety hazards.

As part of this project, we will:

  • Respect the historical character of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Install new energy-efficient (LED) lamps, consistent with the NCC’s 2017 Capital Illumination Plan
  • Improve user safety and comfort on the NCC’s pathways and parkways
