From July to September, the Summer Zone, presented by NCC Weekend Bikedays, takes over the Queen Elizabeth Driveway! With free daily activities ranging from life-size games to musical performances, the Summer Zone offers loads of fun for all ages.

The Summer Zone is divided into three sections, each with its own unique theme and activities.

How to get there

  • Cycling: Bicycle parking is available on site. Bicycle racks are available along the Summer Zone.
  • Public transit: Use this OC Transpo travel planner to get to the Summer Zone by public transit.
  • Driving: There is no onsite parking for the Summer Zone. Parking is available at City Hall or the National Arts Centre.

    Daily, from July 1 to September 2, 2024

    Activities are from 8 am to 8 pm, but this section of Queen Elizabeth Driveway remains car-free 24 hours a day.

    Somerset Street to Waverley Street

    Discover a blend of sports, outdoor games and health and wellness activities that encourage both fun and fitness. Installations feature giant lawn games and chalk games such as snakes and ladders, hopscotch, and more.

    Waverley Street to McLeod Street

    Explore culturally enriching events and activities, including art classes, artist showcases, and live music on the August Civic Holiday weekend and Labour Day weekend. You’ll also find LED swings and a dedicated performance space ideal for showcasing local talent.

    Special animation

    • Cargo Bike Demo and Free Ice Cream, by Parkways for People
      • Date: Saturday, July 13, 2024, 11 am – 12:30 pm
      • Details: Group ride of about 100 cyclists finishing on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway and demonstration of different cargo bikes. Distribution of free ice cream.
    • Painting the scenes we see as Monet used to do, by Ottawa Plein Air Painters 
      • Date: Saturday, July 13, 2024, 1 pm – 4 pm
      • Details: In partnership with Arteast, members of the Ottawa Plein Air Painters (OPAP) will be taking our painting supplies outside to paint on location.

    McLeod Street to Catherine Street

    Dive into outdoor activities that celebrate the environment, nature and wildlife. Cool off with the refreshing mist tunnel, perfect for hot summer days!
