The 2025 edition of the Urban Design Challenge for the National Capital Region was launched on December 12, 2024. Participants had until March 27, 2025, to submit their ideas.
The Challenge invited students from across Canada to come up with innovative planning and design ideas for the Bronson Channel Lands, located 1.2 km from Parliament Hill in the western downtown core of Ottawa. Participants were asked to propose concepts for the Bronson Channel Lands to create a continuous urban interface between Confederation Boulevard, the Canadian War Museum, the Holocaust Monument, the emerging LeBreton Neighbourhood, and the waterfront.
Proposals were asked to consider urban forms and fabric, future animation opportunities, the symbolic context of the site, multimodal public access, and opportunities for Indigenous engagement.
