The Wakefield bridge provides access to the Wakefield Mill Hotel and Spa and the MacLaren Cemetery. The bridge and dam structures need to be rehabilitated to extend their lifecycle.
This project will be implemented in two phases:
Phase 1: Surface repairs (June 9 to June 22). Vehicle access will be prohibited on the bridge. Pedestrian access will be maintained along the north edge of the bridge. Access across the bridge for small maintenance or utility vehicles will be permitted for hotel operations.
Phase 2: Substructure repairs (June 23 to Fall 2025). Full access to the bridge will be reinstated during this phase of the work.
The work will take place over and under the structure of the bridge. Specifically, this project will:
- reinforce the bridge structure by installing new steel beams;
- repair the existing concrete deck and piers;
- improve the surface of the bridge with new asphalt; and
- improve pedestrian access by fixing damaged timber planks on the sidewalk.
