Anita Tenasco was born and raised in the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community (an Anishinabe Algonquin community located about 140 km north of the Ottawa area). Anita is Anishinabe Algonquin, a dji djo (mother) and kokomis (grandmother), as well as a danis (daughter) of a residential school survivor and an Indian day school survivor. Grounded in her nation’s language, culture and history, Anita works as the director of Education for the Kitigan Zibi community. Anita has served her community for the past 28 years, and has experience in managing community services and the education sector. Anita Tenasco has been working on various initiatives with the National Capital Commission since 2005.
