The Gatineau Park Ecosystem Conservation Plan supports the Gatineau Park Master Plan by implementing its overall directions related to the natural environment. It serves as a strategic tool for guiding the management, protection and preservation of the park’s ecosystems.

Published in February 2010, the conservation plan needed an update after 15 years. The NCC is therefore reviewing the plan to assess the measures that were implemented, evaluate progress and update conservation priorities. This process also aims to align the plan’s vision and goals with those of the Gatineau Park Master Plan, published in 2021.

About the plan

Gatineau Park is home to rich and diverse ecosystems and is an essential refuge for a wide variety of species in the region, including nearly 150 species at risk

The 2010 plan sets out 82 conservation measures to protect the integrity of the park’s ecosystems. These measures include:

Review of the plan

Threats to and pressures on ecosystems change over time. As part of an adaptive management approach, a periodic review of the plan allows changes to be taken into account and conservation and planning priorities to be adjusted.

The review of the plan includes an update of scientific knowledge and a review of the measures carried out over the past 15 years. The new plan will establish:

  • new conservation targets
  • the main threats associated with these targets
  • intervention strategies to achieve the new targets, including protection and conservation measures and research guidelines

Consultation methods

Consultations workshops with key conservation partners took place in March 2026. An online consultation also took place in April 2026.

Consultations are also planned with Indigenous communities.
