Update: Work to realign the trail in the area will take place from Friday, February 20 until April. Small machinery will be used on site.

A section of Old Quarry Trail in the Stony Swamp sector of the Greenbelt is closed until further notice due to flooding and damage to its structural integrity. The closed section is located near the P5 parking lot.

We urge trail users to seek alternative routes. Signage and barricades will be installed to inform users of the closure.

The NCC remains committed to developing the trail network at the Old Quarry trail so that all aspects of this unique ecosystem are available to the public. Work will be undertaken this coming winter and spring to realign the trail and open at least two new loops to allow visitors to explore both the wooded and wetland areas. The project will also include the addition of a new viewpoint area next to the wetland. Due to the increased severity and frequency of flooding and the poor condition of the boardwalk, the section of the trail that runs through the wetland will remain closed as we consider next steps, including the possibility of re-naturalizing the trail.

We hope to have the new segments available to the public by summer 2026.
