Greg Smallenberg

Greg Smallenberg is a Canadian landscape architect and urban designer and a founding partner of PFS Studio, one of Canada's leading urban design, landscape architecture, and community planning firms. He is a Fellow of both the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and the American Society of Landscape Architects, and a Member of the Order of Canada. He was recognized by the Order's Advisory Council as a leading figure in landscape architecture whose work has helped broaden the discipline's role in urban design nationally and internationally, and has enhanced the livability of major Canadian downtown cores.

Over more than four decades of practice, his work has spanned large-scale regional open-space strategies, university master plans, city parks, and finely detailed urban spaces. After early career assignments in and around Vancouver, he turned to national and international work, helping to establish and direct PFS Studio's offices in Ottawa and Shanghai. 

In the National Capital Region, he led or co-led the redevelopment of Confederation Square, the Central Experimental Farm Management Plan, and the Parliament Hill Landscape Plan. He was the lead landscape architect for the Vimy Memorial restoration in Arras, France, and has contributed to a range of diplomatic projects, including site planning for the Canadian Embassy in Rome, a recovery master plan for the Canadian Mission in Port-au-Prince, Haiti following the 2010 earthquake and a master plan to guide future development of a new Canadian embassy in Beijing ,China. He currently serves as lead urban design advisor to Global Affairs Canada on a new embassy in Mexico City. He is a graduate of the University of British Columbia.
