Public Notice

Published on August 5, 2021

The National Capital Commission (NCC) wishes to advise users of Gatineau Park that Parent Beach and Breton Beach, at Philippe Lake are currently closed. A bloom of cyanobacteria (Blue-Green Algae) was observed today near the edge of the beaches. The Philippe Lake Boat rental kiosk as well as the Boat launch will also be closed.

As a preventative measure to ensure public health and safety, the NCC decided to close the beaches. Rest assured that the beaches will not re-open until all public safety requirements have been met. Our lifeguards are trained to recognize a cyanobacteria bloom and are thus ensuring continued monitoring throughout the swimming season.

Smith Beach at Philippe Lake (reserved for campers), Blanchet and O’Brien beaches at Meech Lake, La Pêche Lake beach and Leamy Lake Park beach remain open.
