On Monday night, February 17, at 10 pm, the National Capital Commission (NCC) will close a 3.4-kilometre section of the Rideau Canal Skateway for necessary maintenance operations until further notice. The closure will take place between Bank Street (km 4.5) and Hartwells Locks (km 7.8). The 3.9-km section between Lisgar Street (km 0.6) and Bank Street will remain open to skaters on Tuesday.

The closure is necessary because warmer temperatures on Sunday deteriorated the ice surface.

The 50th Rideau Canal Skateway season started on Saturday, January 18. So far, the season has provided 26 beautiful skating days. The NCC team continues to work hard at opening the full length of the Rideau Canal Skateway.

WARNING: Snow, freezing rain or water on the ice may hide serious hazards below the ice surface. For this reason, the NCC urges the public to refrain from venturing onto the closed section of the Rideau Canal Skateway. Please respect the barricades and the signs installed at access points.
