The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce the reopening of O’Brien Beach at Meech Lake in Gatineau Park, earlier today at 10 am, Wednesday, June 26, 2019. In accordance with directives from the Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les Changements Climatiques (MELCC) of Quebec, the beach was closed on June 17, 2019, as a preventive measure, when a bloom of cyanobacteria (blue algae) was observed near the edge of the beach. Follow-ups at the site have comfirmed that the water is now safe for swimming, in accordance with MELCC standards.

Blanchet Beach at Meech Lake as well as beaches at La Pêche and Philippe Lakes, except for Parent Beach (Philippe Lake), are open to swimmers.
