News Release

April 13, 2022

National Capital Region – The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce the schedule for the Gatineau Park parkways this summer, which will see a number of important new offerings to increase access to the parkways to both those who do not own a private vehicle as well as persons with disabilities.

Gatineau Park shuttle pilot project

To provide more equitable access to the trailheads and lookouts along the parkways, the NCC is proud to offer a Gatineau Park shuttle pilot project during weekends, starting in early summer. Departing from downtown Ottawa–Gatineau and the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre, the shuttle will stop at all popular locations along the parkways. The service will be free this year, and the shuttle will be accessible to people with reduced mobility. The schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

More assisted mobility options

New this year, the NCC, in partnership with Relais plein air, will be offering four-wheeled electric scooter rentals to people with reduced mobility. This service will be provided free so as not to create a financial barrier for people with disabilities. Also, electric-assisted bicycles will again be available for rental at Relais plein air, as well as a planned second location in Chelsea. Stay tuned for more information.

Gatineau Park parkways schedule

Building on the success of the last two summers, which saw significant increases in the use of the parkways when car-free, this year’s schedule will be a repeat of the 2021 schedule. It will allow active users (cyclists, pedestrians, roller-skiers, people using mobility devices, etc.) reserved access to the parkways all day Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. In the afternoons and evenings of Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (1 pm to 30 minutes after sunset), the parkways will be open to private vehicles, while the shuttle program will operate all day Saturdays and Sundays once in service.

Additionally, the section of the Gatineau Parkway between parking lots P8 and P9 (North Loop) is always reserved for active use. Details of the schedule are available on NCC’s website and will be effective as of May 7, 2022.
