Robert Alvo is a conservation biologist who lives in Ottawa, Ontario. He has written a book, entitled Being a Bird in North America, which is a unique combination of science and humour. He has been studying the breeding biology of the common loon since 1980, especially examining the effects of lake acidification on loon breeding success.

His talk will be about loon biology and what we know about loons, as well as his field experience working with loons.
