The Queen Elizabeth Driveway will reopen to motor vehicles on July 1, and Colonel By Drive will be open for active use only, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from July 1 to September 6, along a five-kilometre stretch between Daly Avenue and Canal Woods Terrace.
Colonel By Drive Retaining Wall Rehabilitation
A section of Colonel By Drive between Laurier Avenue and Bronson Avenue will be closed to motor vehicles from July 1 to September 6, 2021. This closure will allow work to be undertaken for the rehabilitation of the Colonel By Drive retaining wall. This work is necessary, as some portions have been damaged over the years from snow and road salt. We will be removing the existing retaining wall and replacing it with a new one. The work will be undertaken Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm.
Road access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists. In the construction zone, there will be a single-lane closure northbound on Colonel By Drive and intermittent closures in the southbound lane, during the work. Cyclists and pedestrians will also have access to the pathway adjacent to the canal in order to bypass the construction zone.
Construction vehicles entering Colonel By Drive will be accompanied by escort vehicles, and fencing and signage will be in place at various locations to help direct traffic.
This project is part of the Budget 2020 infrastructure investment to address assets with the most critical health and safety issues.
