Candace Stevenson worked at the Nova Scotia Museum for 28 years, and served 17 years as the executive director of its 25-site system. In her career with the province, she also was executive director of the Heritage and Culture branch, at various times having responsibility for museums, heritage, cultural affairs and libraries. Now retired, she brings extensive experience in governance, management, policy and planning to her many board positions and volunteer activities. Among them, she has served on the Canadian Museums Association Board, and was president for a two-year term. In 2001, she was named a fellow of the CMA. She was an expert advisor for the Cultural Capitals of Canada program for seven years, and served on the Nova Scotia Heritage Strategy Task Force, the Pier 21 Board, and the ICOM-Canada Board. She was the inaugural chair of Arts Nova Scotia, a position she held from 2012 to 2015. She has also volunteered with such boards as Clean Nova Scotia, the Ecology Action Centre, YWCA, United Way and VSO Canada.
