On Sunday, May 19, the National Capital Commission (NCC) is kicking off the 49th season of NOKIA Sunday Bikedays with a second Fast Lane and two new bike check clinics.

The popular NOKIA Sunday Bikedays program is presented by the National Capital Commission (NCC), in collaboration with long-term title sponsor NOKIA, the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), ServicePlus, and a new sponsor this year, Bicyclettes de Hull, who will offer bike check clinics.

On Sunday mornings, from May 19 to September 1, 2019, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy over 50 kilometres of scenic parkways in the heart of the Capital Region. Parkways in Ottawa and Gatineau Park are closed to motor vehicles and open exclusively to cyclists, in-line skaters, runners, walkers, and people who use mobility aids.

QUOTES

“Sunday Bikedays are an incredible opportunity for families and sports enthusiasts to explore in an active way the Capital’s shorelines, green spaces, and symbolic landmarks. This popular program, now in its 49th year, provides a unique chance to discover the region in a different way. The participation of 290,000 people each year is a reflection of its popularity, which would not be the same without the collaboration of our sponsors, partners and employees.”
—Tobi Nussbaum, Chief Executive Officer, National Capital Commission
“For Nokia, it’s important to contribute to an event that motivates so many people to get outside and be active. We are proud to be a long-term partner of NOKIA Sunday Bikedays, as it is a unique opportunity to enjoy Canada’s Capital Region differently. The Nokia Switchbacks team is very excited to continue providing service at their bike check station every Sunday.”
—Andy Thompson, Vice-President, Transformation, Nokia
“We’re proud to be a partner in NOKIA Sunday Bikedays to promote cycling and community engagement for the third year in a row. As public service professionals, our union members work hard to make Canada safer, healthier and more prosperous. NOKIA Sunday Bikedays promotes the same community values that our members uphold each and every day.”
—Debi Daviau, President, Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada and ServicePlus
“As bike specialists and enthusiasts in the National Capital Region, our team is proud to be associated with NOKIA Sunday Bikedays as a new partner this year, and to join the thousands of cyclists who will be getting out and enjoying car-free parkways on Sundays.”
—Sylvain Lafrenière, owner, Bicyclettes de Hull
