Canada’s Capital Region – The posted speed limit on the Portage Bridge will be 50 km/h starting Thursday, September 6, 2018. The limit will then match the posted speed on the roads at both ends of the bridge.

To implement the bridge’s new speed limit, bridge speed limit signage will be replaced from 10 am to 2 pm on Thursday, September 6. The work will be carried out by a mobile work crew that will travel through the bridge, first going and closing the northbound lane for high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) toward Gatineau and the bridge’s bidirectional cycle track and then southbound, going toward Ottawa. Work could also cause small temporary closures along the bridge’s sidewalks in both directions. The five other lanes of the Portage Bridge will remain open at all times during the work.

The National Capital Commission urges motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to exercise caution, respect working crews and equipment, and obey signage and flag persons on-site.

This measure will improve safety for all bridge users.
