How would you like to spend the afternoon canoeing on a lake surrounded by nature? Meech Lake, Philippe Lake and La Pêche Lake in Gatineau Park are perfect places for canoeing and kayaking. In the Greenbelt, you can go boating in the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal.

  • Meech Lake: McCloskey Boat Launch (no rentals at this location)
  • Philippe Lake: Boat launch and rentals (canoes, solo and tandem kayaks, stand up paddle boards, pedal boats)
  • La Pêche Lake: Boat launch and rentals (canoes, solo and tandem kayaks)

Rates include tax.
Boat rentals include two paddles and two life jackets. 
For extra paddles and life jackets, the charge is $1 per hour or $3 per day.

Last rental each day: 90 minutes before closing.

Conditions

  • Deposit: Credit card and photo ID card
  • Payment: Credit card, debit card or cash
  • Groups renting 10 or more boats will receive a 25% discount (canoes, kayaks or pedal boats) on a two-hour rental at Philippe Lake or La Pêche Lake, from Monday to Thursday. Life jackets, paddles and safety kit are included. To reserve, please call the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre.

Shirleys Bay and the Ottawa River

Be dazzled by the scenery, quiet vistas and historic points along the Ottawa River. Shirleys Bay is a popular location for canoeing, kayaking and sailing. There is a public boat launch at Shirleys Bay. The launch is only suitable for small, shallow draught boats because of the shallow and rocky shoreline.

  • Universally accessible outhouse by the Shoreline Trail.
  • Free, year-round parking is available at the P1 parking lot.
  • Sheltered and unsheltered picnic areas at the P1 parking lot by the Shoreline Trail.

The world famous Rideau Canal passes through the Greenbelt. The Rideau Canal is a popular spot for boating. The Black Rapids Lockstation, which is run by Parks Canada, is located by Southern Farm and Pinhey Forest.
